Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove

A UNESCO World Heritage forest shrine along the banks of the Osun River, just outside Osogbo. Home to shrines, sculptures and the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival each August, drawing devotees and visitors from across the world.

Zuma Rock

Zuma Rock is a 725-metre monolith rising sharply from the plain along the Abuja-Kaduna road, roughly 45 minutes from the capital. Its sheer granite face has made it one of the most photographed natural landmarks in Nigeria, and it appears on the 100-naira note. Most visits are a half-day trip from Abuja: a short walk to the viewing base, photography, and an optional guided walk with a site guide.

Abuja National Mosque

Nigeria's foremost Islamic place of worship, its golden dome visible across central Abuja. Non-Muslim visitors can view the exterior and, outside prayer times, arrange a guided interior visit.

Lekki Conservation Centre

Africa's longest canopy walkway, 401 metres through coastal forest, home to monkeys, monitor lizards and over 100 bird species. A 78-hectare reserve established in 1990, roughly 40 minutes from Lagos Island.

Ikogosi Warm Springs

A rare natural phenomenon where a warm spring and a cold spring meet and flow side by side without mixing. Set within a forest reserve with walking trails and a resort for day visitors.

Agbokim Waterfalls

Seven cascades dropping up to 75 metres through rainforest near the Cameroon border in Etung local government area, around 25km from Ikom. One of Cross River's most dramatic natural sights, reached by a short forest walk.

Erin-Ijesha Waterfalls

A seven-tiered waterfall, also known as Olumirin, dropping around 100 metres through Oriade's tropical forest, with each tier reachable by a marked path of increasing difficulty. One of the most visited natural sites in Osun State.

Badagry Heritage Route

Badagry preserves some of West Africa's most significant slave-trade heritage sites, including the Seriki Abass museum, the Point of No Return and the route once walked to the coast. A sober, essential heritage visit roughly 90 minutes from Lagos Island.

Olumo Rock

A rock outcrop in the heart of Abeokuta that sheltered the Egba people during 19th-century inter-tribal wars. Visitors climb via stairs and elevator to shrines, caves and a panoramic viewing point over the city.

Obudu Mountain Resort

A ranch and resort on the Obudu Plateau, reached by cable car through montane forest. Cooler highland climate, hiking trails, waterfalls and panoramic views across the Cameroon border hills.

Yankari National Park

One of West Africa's largest wildlife reserves, with elephants, baboons and hippos, built around the Wikki Warm Spring, a natural spring that stays around 31°C year-round and is open for swimming.

Sukur Cultural Landscape

A UNESCO World Heritage Site on a hilltop in the Mandara Mountains near the Cameroon border: the palace of the Hidi (chief) of Sukur, terraced stone-walled farmland and iron-smelting remains, the first cultural landscape in Africa to be inscribed by UNESCO.

Aso Rock

Aso Rock is a 400-metre granite outcrop overlooking Abuja's Three Arms Zone, the backdrop to the National Assembly and the Aso Rock Presidential Villa. Most visitors view it from Millennium Park or the surrounding public roads rather than climbing it, since the summit route is unmarked and rarely used by tourists.

Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge

A 1.36km cable-stayed bridge connecting Lekki and Ikoyi across the Five Cowrie Creek, and one of Lagos's most recognisable modern landmarks, especially lit up at night. A vehicle toll applies; pedestrians can view it from either bank.

Ancient Kano City Walls

Earthen fortifications begun in the 11th century and completed by the 14th, once enclosing the historic core of Kano city. Alongside the walls, the nearby Gidan Dan Hausa house documents the city's trading and Islamic scholarly history.

Gurara Waterfalls

A broad, 30-metre curtain waterfall on the Gurara River along the Suleja-Minna road, one of the most accessible major waterfalls near Abuja once inside Niger State.

Ogbunike Caves

A limestone cave system of ten interconnecting tunnels in a rainforest valley near Onitsha, reached by roughly 317 steps. Spiritually significant to the local community and one of Nigeria's UNESCO World Heritage tentative sites.

Millennium Park

Abuja's largest public park, inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003, with landscaped gardens, walking paths, a lake and views across to Aso Rock. A popular spot for picnics, jogging and evening strolls in the capital.

Ikom Monoliths

Around 300 carved basaltic stones, some up to 1,500 years old, arranged in circles around villages near Ikom. Engraved with the undeciphered Nsibidi-related script of the Ejagham people, they are among West Africa's most important archaeological sites.

Shere Hills

A range of granite hills and rock formations around 10km east of Jos, on the cool Jos Plateau. Popular for hiking and rock climbing, with panoramic views across the plateau.

Eko Atlantic City

A planned city rising from reclaimed Atlantic coastline in Victoria Island, built partly to halt Lagos's coastal erosion. Visitors come for the Eko Atlantic Boulevard, beachfront views and the skyline of towers under construction.

Tinapa Resort

A business and leisure resort north of Calabar with a water park, an artificial tidal lake fed by the Calabar River and space for exhibitions and events. One of Cross River's main family-oriented attractions.
